Storm Cuff's VEHICLE. The Chosen Ones, curated by GUUD Studo, is not merely an exhibition, this is a movement. This is a body of work so commanding and mighty, a repetitive reminder, mirroring the sound of a revving engine, that Blackness and Black people are the literal drivers, the vehicles, and chosen architects of culture.
"The Chosen Ones” speaks to those who move culture forward, often without being formally appointed or institutionally affirmed, namely the black community. It refers to the innovators, the stylists, the architects, the ones who set tone and direction before the rest of the world recognizes it. It’s less about exclusivity and more about responsibility. To be “chosen” in this sense is to feel called to propel.
Storm considers herself part of that lineage, but not in isolation. She sees herself as part of a continuum, inheriting momentum and contributing to it. The title acknowledges this balance between ancestry and continuation.
“I hope it carries the weight of deliberateness. That nothing about it feels accidental. That even without my voice present, the work communicates that it was built with care, a responsibility to who it represents. I want it to retain clarity about who shaped it and why.
I hope it carries momentum. That it doesn’t feel static on a page and feels like part of something still moving. That someone younger might encounter it and feel permission, not just to admire it, but to build beyond it.
When the work moves without me, it becomes a kind of ambassador. I want it to continue doing what it was built to do: propel and remind.”

FILMS
VEHICLE. VISUALIZER by Storm Cuff
This visualizer gives the stills captured in the series a moment to breathe. There is an introduction of rhythm and emphasis on movement presented in this film. This work became the medium that could embody the way Black culture moves and evolves. It is the single thing that continuously shapes the world. The sound of a car idling, the flow of dresses, the structure of suits, and auto repair shops are more than just images. They are living records, a reminder that none of these things are fixed.
PUBLISHING
In celebration of VEHICLE. The Chosen Ones, ColorBloc Magazine released a dual-cover issue dedicated to the series. The first cover featuring artist, Storm Cuff, positioning herself within a broader conversation about artistic lineage and authorship. The second limited edition cover, highlights a photograph from the series itself, offering readers direct access to the visual world of VEHICLE.
Together, the covers create a dialogue between creator and creation: one centered on authorship, the other on the work itself. This pairing reinforces one of the exhibition's central ideas, that Black culture is not merely influential, but foundational.

PHOTOVILLE x VEHICLE.
A selection of photographs from VEHICLE. The Chosen Ones was featured at Photoville 2026 in Bella Abzug Park, located in Hudson Yards. Presented as part of the festival's public outdoor exhibition program, the work introduced audiences to the series' exploration of Black cultural momentum.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
A multidisciplinary photographer, painter, filmmaker, and dancer, Storm Cuff (b. 2000 Brooklyn) is a visionary committed to expanding the image of Black life.
She has always been surrounded by the arts, but has since pursued a career in this field following her studies at Montclair State University.
